Blooming Inspiration: Day Three at the Little Lyndoch Flower Farm Retreat

Yesterday we wrapped up the final day of the Bloom Retreat at Little Lyndoch Flower Farm, and it’s hard to believe how much has been packed into just three days.

What started as a slightly nervous arrival, wondering if I’d be out of my depth; has turned into one of the most inspiring learning experiences I’ve had in a long time.

Day three brought everything together.

The morning began back in the garden where we were encouraged to wander through the rows of flowers and pick our own market bunch. It sounds simple, but it was such a great exercise in understanding what makes a beautiful, sellable bunch.

We talked about colour combinations, stem lengths, focal flowers, and how to balance a bunch so that it looks abundant while still being practical for markets and customers. It was also a reminder that the flowers you grow need to work not just in the garden, but as a product people genuinely want to take home.

After that, we shifted gears and talked about something just as important as growing the flowers, the business side of things.

We discussed pricing, how to calculate costs, and how growers and florists prepare proposals for weddings, events, and wholesale orders. As someone still figuring out whether this flower farm dream can work, this part of the conversation was incredibly valuable.

It’s easy to get caught up in the beauty of flowers, but there’s a lot of practical thinking behind making a flower farm sustainable.

The retreat finished the way many great experiences do — with a mix of excitement and a slightly overwhelming to-do list.

There are seeds to research, beds to prepare, flowers to trial, and plenty more learning ahead. But instead of feeling daunting, it actually feels energising.

These past three days have shown me what’s possible with the right knowledge, community, and a willingness to start small and learn along the way.

Leaving Little Lyndoch Flower Farm yesterday, I’m heading home with a full notebook, lots of content, a head full of ideas, and a growing list of plans for FAIRVIEW FLOWERS!

The real work starts now.

And honestly, I can’t wait.
