Growing, Learning and Welcoming Spring at Fairview

Spring has arrived at Fairview and it feels like the beginning of a very exciting few months on the farm.

It also feels like the perfect time to welcome so many new people who have found us recently.

If you are new here, Fairview Flowers is our flower farm in Loch Lomond, just outside Killarney, Queensland. We are building it season by season, learning as we grow and slowly discovering what Fairview will become known for.

Right now, a big part of that is simply learning our farm. Over the coming seasons, we will be trialling different cut flower crops to understand what really thrives here in our soil, our climate and our conditions. Of course, we want to grow beautiful flowers. But longer term, I want Fairview to become known for flowers that we grow exceptionally well.

Flowers that suit this farm.

Flowers that perform consistently.

Flowers that our customers look forward to seeing return each season.

Ranunculus: is a very big tick

Our ranunculus have been one of our first real opportunities to see this idea in action.

There has been plenty to learn along the way, but watching them produce armfuls of beautiful flowers has given us the confidence to say that ranunculus have earned their place at Fairview.

We are learning which colours people reach for first, how the different varieties perform and what we would do differently next season.

And although this year’s flowers are still producing, we are already beginning to plan our 2027 ranunculus order. Flower farming certainly teaches you to think ahead. This time, I would love our customers to be part of the planning too.

If there is a ranunculus colour you would love to see at Fairview next year, please let me know. Perhaps it is more pink, classic white, blush, apricot, burgundy, yellow or something we have not grown yet. What you choose from the stall and the feedback you give us genuinely helps shape what deserves more space next season.

What are we trialling next?

Spring is going to give us plenty more to learn. Our stock are growing away and will be one of the next crops we get to properly assess. We will be watching how they perform here, the quality of the stems they produce and, importantly, whether people love them enough to see more of them in future seasons.

Then there are the snapdragons.

I am particularly excited to see those beds in flower. Again, we will be watching which varieties perform well, which colours people are drawn to and whether snaps earn themselves a permanent place in our growing plans. And then there are the dahlias…..

We have 400 dahlia plants about to arrive at Fairview ready for planting!

That sentence still makes me smile!! I can’t wait to show you the colours we’ve leaned towards.

If you have only recently joined us, you have arrived at a really interesting point in our story. There are flowers being harvested now, new crops being trialled, hundreds more plants on the way and planning already happening for next year.

I want to keep sharing that side of Fairview with you too.

Not just the finished bunches in the stall, but what went into growing them, what we are learning and how each season shapes the next.
